Obituary of Constance Roche
June 30, 2026
After graduating from Smith College in 1960, she received her Master of Social Work degree from Fordham University and worked as a case manager for the City of New York for thirty years. She met her late husband, Michael Roche, on the job. He shared her love of camping, intellectual stimulation and talking late into the night. In the early 1970s, they settled in Washington Heights where they raised their two children, Lucy and Jack.
Connie never left the Heights, and over the years, the family apartment became a refuge for her children's friends. She was a second mother and confidante to many, as well as a powerful advocate for those who needed support.
She is survived by her children and grandchildren—Xavier has inherited her contemplative and thoughtful disposition, while Clara has her moxie and energy. Connie met people exactly where they were, and that is how she will be remembered by everyone who felt seen, supported and loved by her. We take comfort in knowing that she is reunited with Michael.

Connie and I shared our grandchildren. We spent many significant family events with each other, doting over Xavier and Clara, as only grandmothers can do! In addition, she shared her warmth and loving nature with all my family and her passing reverberated in Massachusetts, New Jersey, Maryland, Tennessee and Texas. RIP Connie. ??
