It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Aurea Perez Lopez, a beloved mother, grandmother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and matriarch of our family. She transitioned from this life on June 20, 2026, at NYU Langone, at the age of 103.

Aurea was a woman of boundless energy who truly embraced life. She found joy in dancing, music, and playing dominoes, and above all, she loved her beautiful island of Puerto Rico, which she visited often, as well as her devoted family.

She was cared for by her loving daughters, Sonia and Alma, until her final days of life and surrounded by her large loving family. She lived her life to the fullest in Manhattan and was a seamstress who took great pride in creating beautiful pieces

Aurea was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico on May 11,1923, to Juan Perez and Justa Arocha.  Her childhood was marked by hardship, as she became an orphan at the age of nine. Despite these challenges, she built a life defined by strength, resilience, and determination.  She married Ramon Lopez and together they had three children, Alma Iris, Raymond & Sonia. She emigrated to New York City in 1950 and through her hard work and perseverance brought her family to NYC to live a new life. She was widowed at the age of 42 in 1957.  She was able to see her family grow and prosper in New York.

She was predeceased by her sister Milla, her brothers Ismael and Pedro, her partner Humberto Beauchamp and her grandson Angel Martir.

Aurea is survived by her daughters Sonia Lopez, Alma Iris Lopez and son Raymond Lopez; her grandchildren Blanca Markuske, Alma Gallardo, Dr. Michelle Garcia-Rybkin, Diane Garcia, Norman Garcia, Patricia Lopez, Raymond Lopez Jr., Tony Lopez, and Doloras Lopez; her 13 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

A private family viewing will be held on Thursday June 25, 2026, at 8:30 - 10:00 am at Crestwood Funeral Home. We welcome all to celebrate her life and join the family for her Funeral Mass, taking place at Holy Cross Church, 329 W. 42^nd Street, in Manhattan, at 10:30 am on June 25, 2026.
