Obituary of Aihua Tie

On Wednesday May 20, 2026, Aihua Tie, a beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully in his sleep, at the age of 71.  For over 2 years, he demonstrated unwavering courage to his family and friends as he battled the disease and showed to everyone around him what “living to love” truly means.  He is survived by his wife Hui, his son Lei, his daughter-in-law SJ, his grandson Nolan and his granddaughter Astrid.

Aihua was the “best grandpa ever” to his two grandchildren, spending countless hours looking for the perfect Christmas, new year and birthday gifts and showered them with unlimited patience, even through cries and tantrums.  He was the father anyone could ever hope for – never a harsh word but always words of wisdom.  He was also a devoted husband who showed undying love and care to his wife up to the moment he passed.

He was born in China and was trained as a computer engineer.  To seek a brighter future for his family, he moved his family to Guam and would stay there for the next 27 years until retirement.  His career pivoted from computer engineer to construction manager and being a civilian contractor to the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy.  After retirement, he moved to New York City to be closer to his son and fully embodied the transition from an islander to a city person.  He came to enjoy and love the very city where he got to spend his final years.

His love and sacrifice for his family were unmatched, and he will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.  His legacy will forever live on among those who also loved him.
