Obituary of Rodney Guerra

April 19, 2026

On April 19, 2026, the world heartbreakingly lost Rodney Guerra, a beloved father, friend, son, brother, mentor, and role model. Rodney was known for his dark humorous personality and charisma.

Rodney was a proud New Yorker, and resident of Hell’s Kitchen throughout his life. He is survived by his daughter Ilyssa and son Rodney Elyas, his “furry children” Beatriz and Jubjub, wife Jeannette, father Angel, brother Alex Reyes and his wife Alba Reyes and children Sandy, Stephanie, Alex, and Tiffany, cousin Jazalee Sircus, and innumerable beloved friends and colleagues.

All who knew Rodney knew his love of music, dark humor, New York Mets, and Pepsi. Rodney also loved to read, with his favorite authors being Agatha Christie, Stephen King, and Dean Koontz. He loved attending concerts, baseball games, educational conferences, and restaurants and always lit up the room with his humorous nature and smile. Rodney always wore jewelry, especially his cross pendant and MS support awareness bracelet. It is with gratitude to say that the last event that he was able to attend was a New York Mets game.

Rodney was a devoted Catholic that attended Holy Cross School and Church and a proud Fordham University alum. Since 1991, Rodney was a physician assistant specializing in emergency medicine and ended his career with his passion of child healthcare through his work in school-based health clinics. Rodney adored teaching others and being mentors to present and burgeoning members of the medical field.

Rodney’s legacy will forever continue through his children, friends, and all individuals he even had the briefest connection with.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks to consider donating in his honor to National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) or National MS Society.

I remember my Marly used to make Brownies just because he was coming over and he loved them.

To my brother, first of all I may not be there but in spirit you are with me. It is a deep hurt in my heart that you have gone too soon. You and I as kids were always together in what we did. Growing up with you will live in my heart always. We grew up poor but we had great parents that watched over us and protected us from ever going the wrong way in life. Bro, we had our ups and downs but we could never stop or cease the love we had for each other. I will always have you wherever I go. You, Pedro and mom are together again and one day we will all be together like we use too here on earth. Hey I love you and please know that! In the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.

I knew Rodney for more than 40 years. Every time you Rodney, you always saw a smile on his face. Back then his main thing was music. He would DJ at parties, and we would always have a great time. Rodney was always full of humor telling stories and putting smiles on everyone's faces. Rodney is gone too soon and will be missed by so many.
