Obituary of Harriet Bailer

November 24, 2025

Harriet Greenberg Bailer, born on April 1, 1944, in the Bronx, New York, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2025. She was 81 years old.

Harriet was predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, Eugene Bailer. She is survived by her loving sister Mindy Unger, devoted children, Sari Weinberg (married to Craig Weinberg) and Gabriel Bailer (married to Anna Bailer); her cherished grandchildren, Rachel Eve Weinberg (15), Miles Bailer (12), and Josephine Bailer (6).

Proud of her Bronx roots throughout her life, Harriet often reminisced about her joyful childhood—playing handball in the streets, savoring vanilla egg creams, and sharing stories that sparkled with warmth and humor. Her early passion for the arts led her to the prestigious School of Performing Arts, where she majored in music and excelled in both violin and piano. An artistic soul in every sense, she played piano with grace, sang in her temple and community choirs, and moved through the world with a dancer’s poise.

Harriet dedicated much of her adult life to teaching, serving as an adult education instructor in neighborhoods such as Harlem and Spanish Harlem. She found deep meaning in her work and took great pride in empowering her students.

A lover of creativity in all forms, Harriet was known for her vibrant and unmistakable sense of style. She delighted in assembling colorful, expressive outfits and was rarely seen without a hat—whether lovingly knitted by her own hands or discovered in a favorite secondhand shop.

Harriet adored living in Washington Heights and embraced the richness of New York City. She was a loyal patron of art house cinemas, museums, dance performances, art shows, and the theater—finding inspiration everywhere she went.

Harriet will be forever missed by her family and friends, and her memory will be held close in the hearts of all who loved her. She is now reunited with her beloved Eugene, dancing once again by his side.
