Obituary of Leonito Blacer

March 25, 2025

Leonito S. Blacer, also known as “Nito,” age 88, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025, in New York City. Born on June 9, 1936, in Iloilo, Philippines, Leonito was a quiet and thoughtful man whose gentle wisdom left a lasting impact on those who knew him.

He is survived by his loving children: Charlene, Grace, Tristan, and Zeff; his cherished grandchildren: Emmellene, Richie, Chloe, and Zoe; and his adored great-grandchildren: Killian, Coraline, and Rosellena. He is also survived by his sister, Linda. Leonito was preceded in death by his parents, Job and Virginia, and his brothers, Earnesto, Pedro, and Job, Jr.

Though reserved in nature, Nito possessed a keen intellect and a knack for offering insightful perspectives whenever he spoke. He took great pride in his appearance, always presenting himself with meticulous care. Fond memories linger of his stylish school days in the Barotac Nuevo Philippines, where his Montagut shirts made a memorable impression.

Nito enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He cherished his early morning visits to Chinatown, the joy of cooking for his family, and the unique role he played as the family barber. He also found great satisfaction in nurturing life, tending to his beloved tomato plants even in the limited space of the small New York City balcony. A natural teacher, he delighted in sharing his knowledge, particularly mathematics. One of his children fondly remembers being personally tutored by him in mathematics, a subject in which they had previously struggled in high school, ultimately excelling to the top. Known for his generosity, he often shared his winnings from occasional trips to the casino with his family. He also willingly assisted family members with their tax returns, a skill he proudly passed on to his granddaughter, who now carries on the tradition.

His family fondly remembers his quiet determination, particularly the surprising ease with which he passed his CPA exams, seemingly without extensive study and even enjoying a late-night game of Mahjong the evening before. He instilled in his children the important lesson of not being afraid to face anyone, even in challenging relationships.

While his family would have cherished more time with him, they find comfort in knowing that Leonito is now reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Rosario “Charito” Blacer, his parents, and his brothers, of whom he was the last surviving.

A funeral service will be held in his honor.
