Robert A. Chute
Beloved Father, Grandfather, Husband, and Business Leader

Robert A. Chute, 86, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025, at the New York Weill Cornell Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. A loyal husband, devoted father, doting grandfather, and accomplished business leader, Robert's intelligence, humor, and generosity touched many lives. His deep spirituality, curiosity about life, and unwavering faith in God guided him throughout his life. He often remarked, "I don’t know where my soul is going, but I know it's going somewhere." He lived a long, full, and successful life, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Born on July 11, 1938, to Edith and Alfred Chute, Robert grew up in a modest household after his parents divorced. Raised by his single mother, Edith, who worked as a waitress, Robert faced many challenges in his early years. Despite limited opportunities, his athleticism and determination led him to a hockey scholarship at Cardinal Newman preparatory school. He went on to graduate from Bentley College with a BS in accounting and business administration.

After completing his education, Robert served in the U.S. Marine Corps before embarking on a successful career in business. In 1962, he married Helga A. Krogel, and together they had three children: Robert, Patrick, and Myanna Chute. In May of 1990, he wed Suzanne Beech, and together they shared many wonderful years living in Pittsburgh, Naples, and eventually New York.

Robert’s professional life was marked by his leadership, strategic insight, and entrepreneurial spirit. He was involved in numerous ventures as an executive, entrepreneur, and investor. His keen mind for business and markets made him a respected figure in his field. In addition to his business career, Robert’s intellectual curiosity led him to study at Harvard Divinity School and later astrophysics at the University of Cambridge in the UK—not for degrees, but to satisfy his boundless curiosity. In recognition of his achievements, Bentley University awarded him an honorary doctorate.

Tragically, Robert’s life was marked by loss. His daughter, Myanna, lovingly nicknamed Hunny, passed away on August 29, 1990. His son, Robert Cabot, died on December 13, 2018. In August 2023, his beloved wife, Suzanne, also passed away, leaving Robert to mourn her loss.

In his final years, Robert found great peace and joy during summers in Maine, surrounded by his son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughters. He took pride in inspiring his granddaughters to follow their passions, sharing not only stories of his professional successes but also his deep love for music, theater, and art. His quick wit and sharp intellect brought laughter and warmth to countless family gatherings. Robert passed away peacefully, surrounded by those who loved him, and without pain. His legacy will endure in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Robert is survived by his son, Patrick Chute (Casey), and his two granddaughters, Myanna and Laura Chute. He will be entombed on March 18, 2025, at Saint Vincent Cemetery in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, alongside his wife, Suzanne, and son, Robert Cabot.

A small viewing will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Crestwood Funeral Home, located at 445 W 43rd Street, New York, NY. May his soul rest in peace, and may it continue its journey, wherever it may go.
