Obituary of Sonny Subance

August 28, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sonny Subance, our dearly loved husband, father, and grandfather. He left us on Wednesday, August 28th, at his home in Manhattan, surrounded by his loving family. Sonny was born on September 23, 1947, in San Fernando, Trinidad & Tobago. In 1967, Sonny married the love of his life, Silvy Subance. Shortly after the birth of their first daughter Shemilla, Sonny moved to New York City to build a new life for his growing family.

Sonny devoted a notable 27 years of his professional life to the Marriott Marquis in Times Square, where he was a valued and dedicated employee. His contributions and work ethic were greatly admired by all who had the pleasure of working with him. Sonny was awarded many awards for his dedication and consistent work ethic over the years. Sonny knew the original Marriott founders, who always prioritized finding Sonny at the Marquis and applauding his work ethic.

Sonny is survived by his wife of 57 years, Silvy Subance; his three loving daughters, Shemilla Subance, Suzette Ferrier, and Sindy von Ziegesar; and his six treasured grandchildren, Pierce, Fynn, Asha, Augustus, Lily and Sonny. His presence was a source of unwavering support and joy for his family and friends. Sonny’s positive outlook on life, kindness, and loving nature will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will remain in our hearts as a testament to a life well-lived and a legacy of love and generosity.
