I'm a resident at 1165 Fifth Avenue, where Charlie worked for so many years. I'm sorry not to be able to attend the celebration of Charlie's life, as he was an extraordinary person. Charlie was one of the first staff members to greet me when I moved to 1165 some fifteen years ago, and he always stood out for his cheerfulness and willingness to go the extra mile. But we really bonded when I started volunteering at Sacred Heart of Jesus elementary school as part of the Learning to Look art appreciation program. Charlie was a proud alumnus of Sacred Heart of Jesus, and delighted in telling me stories of his memories of his time at the school, and his pride at the athletic feats of his brother, a terrific hockey player - "they've got his name on a plaque, you gotta look for it!" His eyes would light up as he shared memories of growing up in Hell's Kitchen and it was obvious how close he remained to all the members of his family. My husband Bob and I extend our deepest sympathy to Charlie's family on his loss. Carol Hamilton
