Obituary of Rita Marimutu

Rita Marimutu, aged 67, passed away on June 6, 2024, in New York, NY. She was born on January 7, 1957, in Burbice, Guyana. Rita was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Rita was known for her cleverness, style, and vibrant personality. In 2005, she faced disabilities due to a stroke but continued to inspire those around her with her strength and positivity.

In her career, Rita excelled in legal administration at Cohen, Hurkin, Ehrenfeld, Pomerantz, & Tenenbaum, LLP, Gutman, Mintz, Baker & Sonnenfeldt LLP, and Kellner, Chehebar & Deveney LLP.

She is survived by her brother, Ram Verapen, daughters Rachel Blank and Rebecca Marimutu, son-in-law Matthew Blank, and grandson Leo S. Blank. Rita was preceded in death by her mother, Dane Latchmi Verapen, and father, Marimutu Verapen.

The viewing and cremation service will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Crestwood Cremation and Funeral Services, 199 Bleecker Street, New York, NY 10012. The Chapel & Witness (Cremation Service) will follow from 12:15 pm to 1:00 pm at Rosehill Cemetery and Crematory, 792 E Edgar Rd, Linden, NJ 07036.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the International Aphasia Movement at iamaphasia.
