Obituary of Joshua J. Rodriguez

Joshua J. Rodriguez, 30, of Harlem passed away Tuesday, May 23rd, 2023.

He was born March 27th, 1993 in Harlem, the son of Annette Segars and Angelo Rodriguez. Josh attended PS 36 Margaret Douglas and KIPP STAR Harlem Middle School where he spent his younger years. In 2007 Josh was accepted into the prestigious A Better Choice Program which allowed him to attend Winchester High School in Massachusetts. Josh was a triple threat athlete playing Lacrosse, Football and Basketball for Winchester. In 2011, Josh’s scholastic achievements earned him a full- tuition scholarship through the Torch Scholars Program at Northeastern University in Boston where he pursued a degree in Mathematics. Afterwards, Joshua dedicated 8 years of his life to social services. In 2013 he started his impactful career at RHD Boston where he provided residential, day and individual support for people with developmental disabilities. Before his passing, in 2022, Josh worked at Ginkgo Bioworks as a Program Coordinator where he managed Covid- 19 testing in public schools. Josh was passionate about helping others and creating positive change.

Josh had many hobbies and interests. Josh was a skilled chess player competing and practicing locally at different venues. He loved his ukulele which he taught himself to play. Josh was a skilled mathematician. He would solve and learn advanced math problems for fun. Josh collected decks of cards and knew every card game and could perform mind-blowing magic tricks. He would play basketball at the nearby park where he would scrimmage against other locals. He was also a dedicated Lacrosse player and joined a regional Lacrosse league. He knew facts about virtually anything you could ever imagine. He was also a comedic genius making anyone laugh. Josh was known for his infectious smile, humor, generosity, spirituality, and intelligence. Josh had a heart of gold and notoriously put others before himself.

Josh is survived by his mother, Annette, father, Angelo, his twin brother, Michael, his older brother, Matthew and his nieces. An urn viewing and service will take place on Saturday, July 8th between 11am-2pm at
Crestwood Funeral Home - Midtown followed by a reception from 2:30pm-4:30pm held at The Long Room. Flowers can be sent to Crestwood Funeral Home directly.
