Obituary of Ms. Mary Bahadurian

February 11, 2019

Mary was the child of Hovsep and Siran Bahadurian, Armenian immigrants and orphaned survivors of the 1915 Armenian Genocide. They raised their daughter in Philadelphia and even though she was an only child, her relationship with an extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins enriched her life.
The entire family clan spent summer months together in Belmar at the Beach and attended services at the Armenian Church in Elberon.
She attended Beaver College, now Arcadia, in Glenside, PA where she studied psychology and sociology, graduating with honors, and then going on to receive a Masters Degree in Social Work from Bryn Mawr College.

A Philly girl at heart, Mary found herself moving to New York where she spent the next 40+ years treating patients from all walks of life as a Supervisor at Manhattan Psychiatric Center on Ward's Island. Mary enjoyed her career as she genuinely liked talking with the doctors, staff and patients, and truly enjoyed helping people. She retired at the age of 70.

In her later years, Mary loved attending and participating in the Avack group at St. Vartan Cathedral. She loved the arts, enjoyed playing the piano, and attended musicals, plays and the opera. Mary also loved to travel. She enjoyed time with friends and family and had a strong connection to her Armenian roots, especially the Armenian Church.

Mary was loved and will be missed by her many cousins from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and beyond, many close and loyal friends, and her three devoted caregivers.
