Obituary of Mr. Herbert Nathan Loewy Jr.
August 29, 2019
Herbert Nathan Loewy, Jr.
September 22nd, 1930 – August 29th, 2019
Herbert Nathan Loewy, Jr. was born on the Upper West Side of Manhattan on September 22nd, 1930 and died on the Upper West Side on August 29th, 2019 only a few short blocks from his childhood home.
Herb, Jr. was the eldest son of Miriam (nee Samuelson) and Herbert Loewy, Sr.
A sporty city kid, he loved to play tennis, golf, swim, and ski --"stem-christie-ing" through the mountains of Lake Placid with family friends followed by a giant Saint Bernard. Graduating from Bronx Science he went to work in the family business, Samuelson Wire and Rope, before serving his country in the United States Air Force. The Air Force gifted him the view of the wide-open beauty of Montana and then sent him home to attend college. He graduated from New York University and went on to become a Certified Public Accountant.
He is survived by his three children, Aliza Loewy Marlin, Samantha Loewy Heaton, and Albert Edward Freiwald Loewy who learned kindness, honesty and unconditional love from his lifetime of quiet grace. "Grandpops" to Sydney Caroline Heaton and Bailey Jane Heaton, held a gentle smirk in his heart for every escapade and shenanigan and carried on the legacy of the tales of "Wiggy Wag". His sense of joy combined with a gentle softness relayed the profound generosity of his heart.
No need to say goodbye, simply "So Long". May everyone have a Dad as great as ours.
I don't hear the drums
I don't hear the band
These sounds I'm told such moments bring
Happiness comes in on tiptoe
Well what do you know
It's a quiet thing
A very quiet thing
