Obituary of Matthew Joseph Pierre
October 19, 2020
Matthew Joseph Pierre, passed away unexpectedly on Monday October 19, 2020 in Midtown, Manhattan, New York.
Matthew was born on June 19, 2007 at North Shore University hospital in Manhasset, New-York to parents Jeri Snead Pierre and Edwin Pierre.
His birth added much joy and happiness to the lives of his parents and his sister Nyla Jolie.
In 2014, at the tender age of seven, his parents brought him to the temple where he was consecrated to the Lord. Matthew was known by his family, friends, teachers and coaches, as a friendly, lively, smart and caring individual.
Matthew was an athletic scholar with great ambition to succeed. He was a basketball player since third grade, and a cross country runner since fifth grade. He was an avid gamer on Xbox. His favorite game was Overwatch which he played with his best friends Ken, D'Angello, Zach, Yusif, Nate and Perry. Matthew won many awards for his outstanding performance in sports and academics.
This past January he played basketball for his school Success Academy Midtown West. Simultaneously he ran on the Cross Country Team for two years and won two championships.
He was an eighth grade honor roll student. His favorite classes were ELA class and science. He loved to read the Hunger Games series. The best time of his whole day was physical education class. He enjoyed leading the workouts and seeing his buddies. Matthew relished his playtime, fun and socializing with his peers.
Matthew loved his family. His dear sister Nyla had a special place in his heart. He would make no
decision big or small without her being on the same page. Matthew's beloved dogs, Bambi and Benji, whom he tenderly cared for and trained will miss him. He was very responsible and took care of many household chores with pleasure. He had an adoring relationship with his dad who supported all his endeavors and was his personal barber. Together with his father and sister they would have profound discussions about many aspects of life.
Matthew was a sweet son to his mother. They shared a special relationship. They spent time together exercising, walking the dogs by the Hudson River, and occasionally shopping. When no one else wanted to go Matthew would say "I'll go with you, mommy."
Though young, Matthew had a profound love for God and a strong standing trust in Him. As a young member of his community, he impacted others by his respectful attitude, his courtesy, and his kindness. He also listened intently to messages given at his church, Hillsong, New York City. One of his favorite songs was "So Will I".
Matthew departed this earth much too soon. His warm and inviting smile, his candid spirit, his selflessness will be greatly missed, and his memory will remain with us as long as God grants us breath. Matthew leaves to mourn his passing, his beloved parents Jeri and Edwin Pierre, his beloved sister Nyla Jolie Pierre, his grandmother Ellen Dubois, his aunt Sandra Johnson and her partner Rohan Edwards and aunt Valerie Tanis and her husband uncle Michelange Tanis, uncle Gaston Pierre Jr., his cousins Alexandra Sade Johnson, King Zahir Johnson, Marin Keishou and Gaston Pierre, Abigail and Michael Tanis, his Godparents Monique and Robert Chung, and a host of cousins, friends and loved ones
