Obituary of Venus McCombs Threatts

May 24, 2021

Venus McCombs was born in New York City on May 28th 1959 to Pearl Bonds Mccombs and Frederick Pauls. Venus was the last child of 6 children and grew up with her nieces and nephews. She had a great social life and many friends as a child. She spent time living on the Lower East Side of Manhattan as well as a short time living in the Bronx and Harlem. She ultimately settled on the Lower East side in her teenage years.

Venus met her husband Mark Threatts Sr. at Seward Park high school in 1977. They had two children, Mark Threatts Jr. in 1982 and Tiffany Threatts in 1984. They married February 14th 1986. Venus taught her children the importance of family, education, working hard and being independent. She would show up to all family events she was aware of and maintained relationships with family members no matter how distant on the family tree. For family reunions she was the first and most of the time last on the dance floor. And if there wasn't a dance floor she made one. Venus being the youngest of her siblings allowed her to have great relationships and special bonds with her nieces and nephews, their children and so many cousins.

Venus was not scared of hard work. She worked many jobs throughout the city including working for NYCHA and working as a Security guard for apartment buildings, the airtrain when it was being constructed and a daycare center. Through this time she also completed courses and received her G.E.D. Through all of her jobs she created new friendships and maintained the relationships. Venus eventually became a school crossing guard with the City of New York. She enjoyed her career as a school crossing guard and made sure she did her best everyday. When the opportunity came for a supervisor position she made sure she met the requirements which included her getting her drivers license in her 50's. She jumped at the chance for the supervisor role and got the promotion. She continued to strive to do her best and help anyone if needed everyday she came into work.

Venus leaves behind her husband Mark Threatts sr, son Mark Threatts jr., daughter Tiffany Threatts, grandson Amir Threatts, eldest sister Lolita McCombs, sister Aloma McCombs Davis, brother Frederick McCombs and Uncle Alfred Nickol. She also leaves behind nephews Clinton Lowe sr., Darrin Lowe sr., Kevin Lowe, Dwayne McCombs Alston, Harold Borden sr. and Phillip Borden, Xavier Mccombs jr.; nieces Robin Lowe, Rochelle Collins, Thelma Borden, Iris Borden Parks, Bernadette Alston, Lisa McCombs and Monique McCombs Counts; as well as so many great nieces and great nephews, great great nieces and great great nephews, and many beloved cousins.
