Obituary of Ms. Larraine Gayzagian

Although Larraine and I were born only ten days apart, I always considered her far more sophisticated than I could ever hope to be. At least, that's how it seemed to me when I first met her, at the age of fifteen, in the Boston department store where we both had summer jobs. All these years later, that still seems true. We'd never been out of touch, especially once she moved to New York, but my fondest memory of her is the vacation week we spent together on Nantucket when we were 19 or 20. I didn't know how to ride a bike (still don't), so she had to teach me in a parking lot -- if you can possibly picture that. Silly as it sounds, I still remember that week as one of the best times of my life. We biked to the beach every day, ate dinner at the same townie restaurant, and partied away every night. Some stranger took a snapshot of us on the day we arrived; and although I have looked in vain for the photo itself, I still picture us the way we were then -- two young girls on the first day of the best vacation of our lives.

Larraine and I met in our 20's in Boston and clicked immediately. We both loved football, especially the NY Giants and we would take turns hosting every Sunday foot ball parties. Those parties grew. Too soon she moved to NYC but we continued our friendship. I spoke with her in the early spring and she sounded upbeat, as always, and not at all depressed by the lockdown. You had grit girl. RIP

Larraine and I were friends in the same NY building for about 35 years. She was never shy with her opinions; she LOVED the Red Sox and loved the Mets, tennis, and crime books (Michael Connelly and Lee Child were among her favorite authors.) She was fiercely independent and loyal. She had a network of friends who traded jokes and comments daily. I miss her every day!
