David Lee Bartlett, 44, passed away in New York City on Monday, January 10th, 2022; he may have been young but he lived life to the fullest!

Born in Las Palmas, Spain to Reginald Christopher (deceased) and Margaret Wong Bartlett, David grew up in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), grew older in Denton and then Dallas, before putting down roots in New York. David was New York personified – he rarely slept, smoked like a steam pipe, and was effortlessly cool!

Shortly after graduating from the University of North Texas, he started his career with Sprint in Dallas where he spent six happy years. He moved onto Tier Technologies, then Future Technology Associates, and eventually found his way to the New York City Department of Education. He was great at his job, but he wasn't just an amazing boss or colleague, he was also a wonderful friend and mentor.

He worked, loved, and played hard – David was an 'all or nothing' kind of guy! He may have gone on to his next grand adventure but just like in New York, we know he's blazing new trails and ear-marking all the best spots to share with us when we meet again.

To honor his memory, we will be holding a celebration of his life
● from 10am to 12pm on Thursday 20th January 2022
● at the Crestwood Cremation and Funeral Services, 445 East 43rd St, Manhattan, NY
The eulogy will be given at 11am and we invite you to share your stories and memories of David then too.
For those unable to attend in person, you have the option to join by zoom here: https://bit.ly/3FCZXC1

PS Stinky and Bob, his beloved two terrapins have been safely relocated to a turtle sanctuary; we know that David would want them to be well looked after, so in lieu of flowers, we suggest making a donation in his name to one of the many terrapin sanctuaries in New York such as the Terrapin Nesting Project, Terrapin Conservation Project at the Wetlands Institute, Dubos Point Wildlife Sanctuary and others.

I personally did not know David but through my friend (Greg) who worked with David at the New York Department of Education, informed me of his passing. Greg worked in the applications group and said how David was very instrumental on connecting him with computer servers that were needed for his programs.
I read his obit and loved how many family and friends had such beautiful words for David. The audio was SO TOUCHING with the song by GREEN DAY "TIME OF YOUR LIFE" along with everybody's condolences.
To his family and friends....Please accept Greg and my condolences.

Somehow when I heard about David's sudden passing, his wonderful smile and unique accent accompanied with bass level voice of his came flashing in front of me. And the last time I saw him was probably at my wedding, 18 years ago. That was how much he left his mark to everyone that ever knew him as a friend. We studied and graduated together at UNT. We even have worked at the Computer Lab together at some point. I remember David as a good looking and charming friend, a good listener, love to chat and recommend stuff. He always has a great smile on his face. I somehow remember walking with him talking about Sprint and we both dressed up so I think we did go to job interview together at the Omni hotel. What a memory. I am glad I got to know you, David. It is wonderful to know that you had a life the way you want, carefree and wonderful. On to the next adventure and farewell for now.

Only people who are capable of loving strongly can also suffer great sorrow, but this same necessity of loving serves to counteract their grief and heals them. Leo Tolstoy
