Obituary of Mary Montgomery

Mary C. Montgomery, age 96, passed away peacefully in New York, NY on November 24, 2020. She was born December 4, 1923 in Poor Fork, KY to Italian immigrants Francesco and Aida Giaccio. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 35 years, David C. Montgomery, and brothers Peter and Anthony Giaccio. She is survived by her children John (Lynn), Steven, Jane (Kevin), grandson David W. Montgomery, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Mary graduated from St. Ursula Academy in Cincinnati, OH and from the University of Cincinnati, majoring in Music Education. Following her marriage, she and her family pursued the American dream while living in Valley Stream LI, Pittsfield MA, Fort Wayne IN, Nashville TN and Schenectady NY. Mary spent many years teaching children to sing and to appreciate the arts, as a music teacher at schools in Cincinnati, Fort Wayne, Schenectady, and Nashville. She was also an accomplished pianist, and frequent ballroom dancer. In retirement, her passion was passing along her musical skills, working with seniors and intergenerational choirs. She was a lifelong and devoted Roman Catholic and served in many capacities at the churches she attended, including as organist and pianist. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross Church, 329 W 42nd Street, New York, NY 10036, on Saturday, November 28 at 10:00am (viewing at 9:00am) Burial will take place at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Schenectady, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Saint Ursula Academy, 1339 East McMillan Street, Cincinnati, OH 45206, website: https://www.saintursula.org/MakeaGift.aspx.

My memory of my Aunt Mary was that she was always gracious and graceful. I always enjoyed visiting with her and her family--my Uncle David and cousins John and Steve. When my husband and I traveled to Nashville, Aunt Mary was such a wonderful host! I will always associate her with music.
