Janos Imre Szabo
Janos "John" Szabo, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away in his sleep on Wednesday, April 7th after a valiant battle with bladder cancer. He was 86.
He is survived by his loving wife, Angelina; devoted son John Paul (JP); daughter-in-law Krystal; and two granddaughters, Allegra and Cassandra.
Janos' Life
Janos was born on February 24th, 1935 to Sandor and Luca Szabo in Kiskunfelegyhaza, Hungary. As a young boy he lived through the tumultuous times of World War II. Then, just over a decade later, as a young man, he saw his country in turmoil again during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. At the age of 21, he found himself fleeing his home and became a refugee in Yugoslavia.

Even though his home country had experienced many trying times, he was still extremely proud to be Hungarian. He earned his ticket out of the refugee camp by joining the American army. After completing his service, Janos became a US citizen. In 1970, he met the love of his life, Angelina, on a blind date at an ice-skating rink in NYC. They were married three years later on July 7th, 1973. 10 years later they welcomed their only child, JP into the world.

His 30-year career included a short stint at a chocolate factory and at a flooring company. In 1970, he found his true calling working at the Ettco Wire & Cable Corporation starting as a draftsman and working his way up to chief engineer until he retired in 1996.
He was a Renaissance man and could fix almost any electrical, plumbing or household problem. He enjoyed wood working, cooking for the family and playing golf.
In recent years he delighted in family vacations to Mexico and Sunday visits with his adoring granddaughters who will forever love their "Nagypapa."
He will be remembered by all for his charisma, delicious cooking, his wonderful stories of travelling abroad and endless, but invaluable list of life lessons.

There will be a funeral mass in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Hillsdale, NJ on Wednesday, April 7th @ 10am, followed by a private graveside service for family and close friends at the Maryrest Cemetary in Mahwah, NJ.
