Obituary of Michael J. Foley

May dear Mike rest in everlasting peace. He was a true mensch in every way. A great mentor as well.

Our hearts are broken for the family of this beautiful man. I met him when I was a kid and remember him as friendly and fun loving. He taught me how to cha cha at a block party at my Aunt Dot's house! I am so sorry and know you will all miss him so much.

Our hearts go out to Nancy and family. We shared good memories together.

Mike was a good friend and colleague - and also a friendly competitor - for many many years in the Stoick Transfer Agency community. I met Michael when I was pretty young. He always had a smile and made those around him smile. He used to pretend he couldn't tell my sister, Margie, and I apart. He would sit there scrunching his face like he was thinking really hard and then look at me and say "Margie ". Always funny. Michael was a kind, decent man. The world needs more people like him. Mike was a great friend, boss and colleague. I will always hold dear the business principles I learned from him.

I met Mike when I was fresh out of college and have had the good fortune to see him often through the years. He immediately struck me as the kind of person whose actions should be emulated. He was friendly, kind and caring to everyone. I never once saw Mike raise his voice in anger. He was always thoughtful and even keeled. I will miss Mike's presence at the afternoons at Doyle's. My wife Michelle and I send our deepest condolences.

I’m John Kevin Carney’s youngest brother. As luck would have it, I’m a Holy Cross Grammar School product too. I only met Mike a half dozen times, or so. My brother, and “the boys” would come to Chicago for business. I live in suburban Chicago. I would go meet them for lunch. Mike Foley was always pleasant, kind, and funny. One time he regaled us with a story about his Amtrak train trip, from Manhattan to Chicago. He had a sleeper, a wee bottle of wine. He said, I have a little wine, I go to sleep.... I wake up in Chicago. He was delighted. All of us Carneys got such a big kick out of him. And we’ll miss him.

Condolences to the family!

I worked with Mike at First Chicago and other entities thru the years. Once in his office we had a discussion about some pricing. While I droned on for a good 5 mins. about why and how.....Mike was busy clicking an early version large calculator. Just as I finished, he looked up and said 3.19. I carried that joke between us for many yrs. always asking him, when I saw him, if he would explain the number. We laughed always. One of a kind for sure. My condolences to the family....

My condolences to the Foley family. I met Mike shortly after college and was fortunate enough to work for him for a a number of years. As everyone who has worked with Mike will state, he was a great person to work with as he was always willing to help and guide you along. I count myself as being very lucky to have known him.
